about
‘Keyboards and conversations’ is a two-part story about the hardships of being in a relationship where both people are musicians for a living. The first part of the story describes a conversation between two people, who are living their life together whilst experiencing the ups and downs that come with trying to make a living from their music.
Sometimes you feel like you want to help the other by trying to fix everything (hold their world) or answer all their questions of anguish and pain. Sometimes you may not feel good enough yourself or feel like you as an artist aren’t accepted in the industry.
Then there is the other side of the story where there isn’t much money to be made and the money you have invested, has been gambled away on a dream. The low points can be hard to witness, feeling like they are never going to end and can go round and round and bounce from one partner to the other.
I wrote this song to help me reframe this perpetual loop we go on as artists and supporters. We all have to let our scary inner monologues of doubt and feelings of unworthiness out, and through this release, if said out loud into safe hands we can let it go. Which in itself is growth in love and growth in a career, through the power of conversation and vulnerability.
The second part of this story is a love letter to that other person, declaring that I do not need money to make me happy or successful, I just want to be living the simple life, being one with them, by the sea and not away on tour.
lyrics
KEYBOARDS AND CONVERSATIONS
VERSE 1
Like a seashell lying on it’s back trying to hold the whole ocean,
I see you trying to hold the whole world for me.
I know I complain a lot about not knowing my purpose,
but we’ve all gotta let it out, safely where we can be heard out
VERSE 2
I like our simple ways of, living with our keyboards and in rhythm
I see life evolving, growing our garden with our conversations.
You know you’re upset with not feeling accepted.
All you need was to let it out, safely where you can be heard out
CHORUS
Baby, you should know, that I have all the riches in my world.
Daydreaming everyday, by the sea, in the sun, by your side.
By your side, (daydreaming) by your side by your side
I'm not away, (daydreaming) your not away, we're not away
OUTRO
and we could be, we could be…
we could be ... (Daydreaming)...we could be....(daydreaming)...we could be...we could be...(daydreaming)....
